Rowe Design Group provided full architectural and engineering services for Springfield Municipal Hospital's Psychiatric Unit, a 16,000 square foot secure psychiatric facility for approximately 30 patients. Completed in 1993, the facility houses a new program for the long term care of chronically ill mental patients in a therapeutic milieu. |

Social ActivitiesThe Solarium is one of three indoor group activity
spaces. The room is flooded with light and overlooks additional green space. It
is utilized for common activities and instruction.

Activities for Daily Living The program utilizes a combination of training in daily activities such
as meal preparation in the model kitchen and vocational training to assist
patients' developing independence, all located in the Vocational Wing.

Outdoor Recreation The facility's layout provides for a secure outdoor
environment which includes a deck, green space, and room for outdoor
activities. |
